Men from all over the community lined outside the entrance of Rock Island Academy Elementary school on Friday, September 27 to give students high fives as they walked into school.
This is the fifth year the school has hosted the Million Father/Man March. Amber Grant, a teacher at the school organizes the event every year. She says the purpose of the event is to "Encourage the influence of men in the lives of children, increase male participation within the school environment, and publicly display unity in our community."
There were individuals there to represent numerous organizations in the community. Some of those include John Deere, Augustana College, Rock Island High School football Players, Radar from the QC Storm, Rock Island Police Department, Rock Island County Sheriff's Office, Rock Island City Employees, State Rep. Mike Halpin, and more!
There were student's fathers and grandfathers who also participated. After the morning greeting, there was an assembly followed by light refreshments after.
Grant hopes to grow the event bigger every year!
