World-renowned Violinist Gives Music Lesson to Rock Island Students

Before the big concert on Friday Edison Jr. High, Washington Jr. High and Rock Island High School orchestra students got a music lesson from Jesus Florido.

Born in Venezuela Jesus Florido has a very diverse musical background. A classically trained violinist and composer he has always pushed the boundaries of his surroundings. In addition to classical violin performance, he also has studied Afro-Cuban, Jazz Rock, and Fiddle music. His list of musical influencers is usually varied, incorporating composers and performers such as Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Grapelli, Hendrix, Ponty, Shankar, and Satana.

Sharing his music through teaching is an essential part of Mr. Florido’s daily life. A highly sought-after teacher, he has conducted workshops in Venezuela, Brazil, Spain, Canada, Germany, Austria, France, Belgium, and the US.

Currently, he resides in Los Angeles and is working on completing two feature films. He’s worked with everyone from Justin Timberlake and John Legend.

Matt Manweiler, Orchestra Director for the district says it’s an incredible opportunity for students to get to play with and learn from such an accomplished violinist.

Jesus Florido will be performing side-by-side with the Rock Island High School Orchestra on Friday, Feb. 21 at 7:00 p.m. at Rock Island High School (1400 25th Ave). Tickets are $15.
