In honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2, Read Across America Day activities were held in RIMSD #41. Many schools celebrated the entire week. The elementary schools had a different Dr. Seuss theme for each day: Cat in the Hat Day, Wacky Wednesday, Wacky Socks ( Fox in Sox), and more!
Students at the Rock Island Academy celebrated Read Across America the entire week as well. Amber Grant coordinated a week's worth of Celebrity Readers from the Superintendent to the Police Chief and invited people to bring their favorite book and read to classrooms.
Frances Willard also invited different guests from the community to come in every day and read to students. Guests also talk about their careers with students.
On March 2nd, Earl Hanson students participated in a “Stop Drop and Read” where students gathered in the hallway for ‘drop everything and read’ time.
It was a great week to celebrate literacy and love of reading!
