For the past six weeks, Spring Forward has distributed more than 1,700 kits Summer Success Kits and 5,000 books to RIMSD #41 students.
With many camps, activities, and events canceled, there are fewer ways for families to keep kids learning and engaged. Spring Forward, with support from community partners, is hosting a remote summer camp to keep kids learning over the summer months and prepare for the school year.
Spring Forward annually hosts summer enrichment camps with a focus on summer learning for more than 300 children in the Rock Island-Milan School District. Its goal has always been to curb summer learning loss or the "summer slide."
This year Spring Forward decided not to gather for camps and switch to a remote camp. The new model includes Summer Success Kits and on-line learning opportunities at springforwardsummercamp.com. Families have picked up a new kit each week for six weeks in June and July.
All materials and instructions needed for activities are included in the kits. All campers also get a new grade-level book each week. Spring Forward will distribute 5,000 books this summer at camp, on bike patrol, and at pop up book giveaways.
