On Monday, January 28, the 38th Annual Memorial Service and Awards Celebration were held virtually.
The celebration is held every year to honor the late Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Rock Island High School senior JaRaya Carr was awarded the M.L. Lockhart Scholarship. JaRaya currently has a 3.9 GPA, is a Student Ambassador, and is in the National Honor Society, French Club, Rock Island High School Riveter, and is a student volunteer throughout the district. She plans on attending a university to get her degree in nursing.
Rock Island Center for Math & Science 6th-grader Kyla Nephew won the Youth Expression Contest. Kyla got to share her poem at the virtual ceremony. Watch here>>

Rock Island High School senior JaQuon Lue won the Black Hawk College Commitment to Diversity Scholarship. He was awarded for his commitment to diversity, to culture, and his commitment to excellence. He will attend Black Hawk College to study business.
Rock Island High grad (Class of ’82) Kai Swanson won the I Have a Dream Award. The award is given to an individual for exceptional community service.
