After more than a year of planning it was finally time to break out the gold shovels and celebrate.
Next school year (2022-2023) Rock Island High school will look like a completely different school.
The revenue from the Rock Island County %1 Sales Tax is giving the RIMSD#41 much-needed funds to complete construction projects and plan building upgrades for the future!
This includes $9.8 million worth of upgrades at Rock Island High School, a reason worth celebrating. On August 25, city officials, elected officials, RIMSD#41 staff and school board members, members from the Quad City Chamber, and staff from Bush Construction and Legat Architects gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony outside the front entrance of the high school.
"This is an exciting time, not only for our students and staff but also our community. When this is finished this is something the whole community can be proud of," said Superintendent Dr. Lawrence.
The project includes cafeteria renovation and equipment, commons addition, secure entry additions, sidewalk work, improved student drop off/pick up area, and site work. The expansion will add approximately 38,000 square feet to the existing high school structure. Legat Architects came up with the design and layout for the project and construction was contracted to Bush Construction.
