RIHS Students Honored at Rotary Awards

The Rock Island Rotary Club honored the top two students from Rock Island High School at the 49th Annual Rotary Club of Rock Island Annual Awards Luncheon.
 
Superintendent Dr. Lawrence introduced Vix Dang and Madelyn Maidak as the scholastic best from Rock Island High School. Recognized as the scholastic best from Rock Island High School were Say Say and Noah Rettig.
 
Vix Dang a senior at Rock Island High School. Vix is a member of the National Honor Society, a Charles O. Austin, Jr. Scholar, and has been ranked in the Top 10 of the class all four years of high school. Vix is
tied for Number 1 in the class of 2023 with a 4.4286 grade point average on Rock Island High Schools’ 4.0 scale.
Vix has received a Presidential Scholars Award from Black Hawk College and the Rock Island High School Esplin Scholarship. Vix is an accomplished artist and is a Quad Cities Metro Arts Youth Apprentice and has collaborated in the design and painting of full color large scale murals for the City of Davenport and at Denkmann Elementary School in Rock Island. Outside of school, Vix is a volunteer at Gigi’s Playhouse and a program Assistant at the Downs Syndrome Achievement Center. After Graduation Vix plans to attend Black Hawk College.

Madelyn Maidak senior at Rock Island High School and is the daughter of Alexander Maidak and Sarah O’Hern. Madeline is a member of the National Honor Society, a Charles O. Austin, Jr. Scholar, and an Illinois State Scholar. She has earned a 4.4286 grade point average on Rock Island High Schools’ 4.0 scale. Madeline is President of the Environment Action Club, a Rocky Pride Award Winner, and has ranked in the Top 10 of her class all four years of high school. She currently is tied for Number 1 in the class. A multi-talented young lady, Madelyn is in Band, has run Cross Country for 3 years, Track for 2 years, and is a member of the Math team. While doing all of this she has also held a job and is Assistant Supervisor at Whitey’s Ice Cream. After graduation, Madelyn plans to attend either Purdue University or the University of Illinois with a major in Engineering.
