RIMSD#41 Parent of the Month for April

The district's F.A.C.E (Family and Community Engagement) has started a new initiative to recognize parents/guardians and a RIMSD school who are making a positive impact in our school district and community.

Parent/Guardian of the Month
Schools can nominate a parent/guarding who goes above and beyond to support the needs of children, our school, and/or our community. The winner receives a gift card, a bunt cake, and a sign that can display outside their residence.

Johnna Gamble of Thurgood Marshall nominated Tonya Willits

I would like to nominate Ms. Willits, mother of Taireace Turner. I run a program here at Thurgood Marshall that Taireace and his mother are a part of. Through this program, I have gotten to know Ms. Willits. We communicate biweekly, not only about Taireace and the program but her involvement in her son's education.  She was very prompt about getting parent-teacher conferences set up and requesting additional work at home for Taireace so that he does not fall behind and stays ahead of the game. She is very respectful, easy to talk to, and gets back to me rapidly if she misses my call or text. I appreciate the relationship we have built based on communication, honesty, and trust since Taireace has started attending Thurgood Marshall. I truly believe she would be an excellent candidate for Parent/Guardian of the Month.

Liz Funkhauser parent of the month winner

Rosaland Lee of Ridgewood nominated Liz Funkhauser

Liz is always here for her students and the students of Ridgewood School.  She started out as a participating parent with our PTG (Parent Teacher Group) for several years.  Now she is the president of our PTG.  We can always depend on her whenever we need something.  We truly appreciate all Liz does for our school.

Ms. Wright nominated Fabiola Cavazos - Rock Island Center for Math & Science

Fabiola cares about our school, students and staff.  She's always willing to lend a hand, whether it's cleaning tables during lunchtime or assisting students in the lobby with doors. She and her family attend all of our after school events and can be found helping out there too. Fabiola likes to keep the staff happy and spoils us with supplies, candy and treats!
