Rock Island Center for Math & Science students had a special guest speaker.
Third and fourth graders part of the Immerse program recently had the opportunity to see JUNKraft, an exhibit at the Putnam Museum. This week they got to meet the person behind the exhibit!
Dr. Marcus Eriksen came to RICMS to speak to students on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.
Dr. Eriksen lectures on marine conservation, especially the impact of plastics on the world's oceans, breaking down the complexity of stakeholder objectives and identifying common ground and actionable solutions. He's led more than 20 expeditions through the 5 Gyres Institute exploring and researching the world's oceans.
As the co-founder of LEAP LAB, he also lectures on biophilia, and the role of art, science, and self-reliance to achieve urban resilience.
He has testified in front of Congress, written books, given lectures, and truly provided eye-opening experiences for all!
His exhibit, JUNKraft is currently on display at the Putnam Museum.
Students were able to ask Dr. Eriksen questions. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for students!
