The Rock Island-Milan #41 Board of Education held its regular November meeting on Monday, November 28, 2023. Here is a brief recap of what was discussed at the board meeting.

In action items, the Board approved:
- A contract extension with J.L.Brady, Co. for HVAC/Plumbing service not to exceed $205, 920.00. District O&M funds will be utilized for this purchase.
- A contract for service with the American Institute for Research in the amount of $154,408. Title I School Improvement funds will be used for contract for service.
- A contract for service for Guaranteed Energy Savings Program with Performances Services for HVAC upgrades at Earl Hanson Elementary, Eugene Field Elementary, and Ridgewood Elementary in an amount not to exceed $9,627,208.00.
- Bills for Payment - BOE authorized Bills for Payment dated November 15 in the amount of $4,560,301.69.
- Approved the purchase of administration center furniture Phase III from HiTouch Business Service in the amount not to exceed $21,426.35. District Education funds will be utilized for this purchase.
- Approved the purchase of Project Lead the Way materials from Project Lead the Way at a cost of $56,472.75. District funds will be used to purchase the materials for EJHS, WJHS, and RIHS ($43,200). Rock Island-Milan Education Foundation donated funds will be used to purchase the materials for RICMS ($13,272.75).
- Approved the appointments and resignations of certified and non-certified staff.
The board got to hear three presentations on new course proposals at Rock Island School. The board approved the addition of Spanish for Heritage Speakers I and II, Global Awareness and ELA, and an AP Chemistry course for the 2024-2025 school year. You can learn more about these courses here.
The board also heard a brief presentation about the corrective action plan for Head Start.
In Business and finance the board approved:
- Adopting a resolution to transfer $2 million from the Educational Fund, $2 million from the O&M Fund, and $2 million from the Transportation Fund to the Capital Projects Fund for capital expenditures properly accounted for from the Capital Projects Fund.
- Adopting the 2023-2026 agreement with AFSCME. This is a three (3) year agreement with AFSCME.
