Citizen Recognizes TMLC Staff Member For Their Act of Kindness

TMLC Principal, Mr. Driscoll received a call from a man named Roy who wanted to tell him about an experience he had with one of Mr. Driscoll's employees.

A few weeks ago Roy was at Maid-Rite in Milan. The restaurant was busy and they were short-staffed staffed so the wait was a little long. He noticed a young mother with her daughter also waiting for their order. While other customers were frustrated about their wait, Roy overheard the mother explaining to her daughter that patience was the best way to help the Maid-Rite staff.

Later Roy went to pay for his order and found out that the compassionate young mother had paid for his meal. They had a brief conversation and he thanked her for her selfless act of kindness. During their conversation, many things the mother said resonated with him. She explained that she worked at TMLC where she was lucky to help students. She told Roy that paying for his meal was not about the money but about paying it forward.

Roy recently suffered some tragedy in his life so her act of kindness came at a time when he needed it the most. Roy says the single act of kindness helped him get through a difficult time and restore his faith.

That mother was Destiney Hearn, TMLC Building Supervisor. Not only did Roy call Mr. Driscoll but he's been trying to get in contact with the city of Rock Island as well.

Roy stopped by TMLC to present Destiney with a certificate for her good deed. He wants RIMSD #41 and the community to know what a great role model Destiney is and the kind of person we need to represent the district and our community.

Way to go Destiney!
