The district's F.A.C.E (Family and Community Engagement) recognizes parents/guardians who are making a positive impact in our school district and community.
Schools can nominate a parent/guardian who goes above and beyond to support the needs of children, our school, and/or our community. The winner receives a gift card, a bunt cake, and a sign that can be displayed outside their residence.
Becky Kennelly, nominated by Jennifer Alongi Eugene Field
Becky, is president of our school's PTA and does an incredible amount of work for our school. She planned Grandfriends Day and our Fall Frolic, including soliciting water and candy donations, showing up early for set up, and staying after for tear down. She arranges multiple fundraising opportunities for our school. Becky provides the agenda well in advance of our quarterly PTA meeting, and she keeps the length of our meetings to under an hour. She even brings treats to each meeting! She helps sell Eugene Field and Rocky spiritwear. She even brought cookies to Pastor Janet (First Baptist Church) and Fr. Michael (St. George Greek Orthodox Church) in appreciation for the use of their parking lots for drop off and pick up.
Nichole Scranton nominated by Danielle Blackwood -RICMS
I attended one of our PTCC meetings last week as Mrs. Lonian and I were requesting funds to help spruce up our school's Calming Room. This room is used to help with de-escalation and to have a space for students to calm down when they have big feelings so we can help problem-solve and get them back to learning. Our PTCC generously approved the funding for the items we wanted to purchase. Mrs. Scranton is the Vice President of PTCC. As I was leaving I stopped to speak to Mrs. Scranton. She wanted to see the space and graciously and immediately asked to help. She knew we would not get our items for a short while as well. Mrs. Scranton came on the VERY NEXT DAY! She scraped tissue paper off of the windows and got them clean. She brought more soft seating, blankets, sensory tiles, a bubble tube, bubble wrap, and even snacks. I know I am forgetting something. She set everything up as well. Mrs. Lonian and I were so surprised and tearfully delighted when we saw what she had done. We so very much appreciate her kindness and understanding of why we need this space. Students are utilizing it every day. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
Anita Gomez-Jones nominated by Rosie Ambriz - Longfellow
Mrs. Gomez-Jones truly has a heart of gold! If she isn't attending every school event offered with her 3 children she is bringing monthly snacks to their classrooms and other much-needed necessities. When she has attended field trips with her kiddos you can see her caring love for them and the students of Longfellow. Mrs. Gomez-Jones also always leaves her delicious homemade Rice Krispy treats for the staff to enjoy! We forever appreciate your kindness and generosity Mrs. Anita Gomez-Jones!!
