Board of Education Meeting Recap

The Rock Island-Milan #41 Board of Education held its regular meeting on Thursday, January 11, 2024. Here is a brief recap of what was discussed at the board meeting.

In action items, the Board approved:
  • Approved a contract with Valley Construction Co. for Frances Willard Gym repairs in the amount not to exceed $151,000.00. Capital funds will be utilized for this purchase.
  • Approved the addendum to the contract for stage curtain cleaning and flame-retardant re-application from On-Site Drapery Cleaners in the amount not to exceed $55,769.95. District Operations & Maintenance funds will be utilized for this purchase. 
  • Approved the addendum to the contract with Swanson Construction for the replacement of the Rock Island High School elevator and smoke hatch in the amount of $529,942.48. 
  • Authorized Bills for Payment dated December 15th in the amount of $4,946,939.57 and December 29th in the amount of $4,297,124.13. 
  • Approved the amended September 2023 financial statements. 
  • Approved the October 2023 financial statements. 
  • Approved the November 2023 financial statements.
  • Approved the list of donations.
  • Approved the appointments, termination, and resignations of certified and non-certified staff.
In Personnel items, the board approved:
  • Three-year administrative contract with Dr. Sharon Williams as the next Superintendent of Schools. 
  • Melody Oswald as the Interim Principal at Longfellow Liberal Arts for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year at a per diem of $552.98.
  • Contract extension of Interim Superintendent Alan Boucher to work from January 2-4 at a rate of $900 a day.
 
In Operations, the board heard a second reading on board policy updates, a report from Cabinet members on the first-semester report of the district strategic plan, and approved the 2024 Discipline Improvement Plan as presented.
