The district's F.A.C.E team selects a parent/guardian and school each month that goes above and beyond!
Parent/Guardian of the Month
The district's F.A.C.E (Family and Community Engagement) recognizes parents/guardians who are making a positive impact in our school district and community.
Schools can nominate a parent/guardian who goes above and beyond to support the needs of children, our school, and/or our community. The winner receives a gift card, a bunt cake, and a sign that can be displayed outside their residence.
Deb Gaddy - Frances Willard - Nominated by Nicole Melody
Frances Willard is so lucky to have a friend like Deb Gaddy (Better known as Ma Maw). Deb helps raise her grandchildren who are students at Willard and Earl Hanson. When one of the kids needs something- Deb is on it. If one of the kids just needs to have MaMaw give them a pep talk, Deb is there. She loves to get pictures of the kids doing great things at school because she wants them to be their best. This year we asked Deb to be our Parent Representative on the Superintendent's Council. At first Deb was quite surprised but we explained that we wanted to find someone who would be a great spokesperson because of her history with Rock Island Schools. At the last meeting, Deb spoke up about an issue and the next day it was taken care of. She cares deeply for her grandchildren and wants them at a school that cares as much as she does. Deb brings the kids to every family event. She has donated items for staff and is always willing to help in any way. We are so thankful that we have her as a partner to make our school great!
Corinthia Dothard - RICMS - Shaya Smith
Corinthia has been a part of our Building Leadership Team (BLT) for several years now. She is consistently attending meetings and takes her partnership with our staff very serious. She gives us a wonderful view of a parent's perspective that our school needs to foster better relationships with our families. She also has great ideas and opinions that we use! She is not only a parent to us but a friend and we value and respect her opinion. We hope that this is a great model to other families and parents! Working together is so important for our children!
Ben and Jen Schrempf - Mrs. Varnes - EJHS
The Schrempfs have been active Eagles at Edison for the last 4 years. Each year they go out of their way to share kind notes with EJHS staff members regarding their experience, attend family events, and also advocate for their children by checking on their progress and encouraging them to take academic risks. Keep SOARING!
School of the Month
The District F.A.C.E team selects the school of the month based on the work of the building F.A.C.E team as a collaborative unit, building leader support to the overall building F.A.C.E goals, the intentionality of implementing events that include a variety of different process conditions, and the consistency of F.A.C.E events and operations at each site.
The winning school receives a treat and flags to display outside their school building.
Congratulations to Longfellow Liberal Arts who was chosen as the winner for the month of January. Here is what their nomination stated, "The Lions welcomed several community partners into their school this month. The Figge, Ballet Quad Cities, Jaerv + The Okay Factor and Young Lions Roar provided programming, and families will have a game night on January 31st. Longfellow spent January enriching the academic experience for their students through community partnerships and inviting families into their school. We appreciate all the Longfellow Lions have done to engage families and the community.
Longfellow, keep doing what you are doing! We see you! "
