RIMSD counselor named "Illinois K-8 School Counselor of the Year"

Rock Island Academy's School Counselor Amy Zero has been named as the Illinois School Counselor Association's (ISCA) 2024 Illinois K-8 School Counselor of the Year!

Amy will be recognized and awarded at the annual ISCA Conference in November.

Several criteria must be met even to be nominated for this award. Some include:
  • The nominee should possess the personal qualities thought to be desirable in an exceptional school counselor.
  • The nominee must have been responsible for innovations in the school counseling program, for providing leadership in the further development of existing services, for demonstrating leadership in professional school counseling associations, and/or for performing an outstanding service to the school or community.
Amy has played a key role in the district taking a different approach to school counseling. The district has done a lot of work in the past three years and was recognized by the state. Amy and another RIMSD counselor had the opportunity to present at the ISCA Conference in 2023 to talk about the work being done in RIMSD.

This isn't the first time a RIMSD #41 school counselor has been recognized. In 2023, Rock Island High School Counselor Julie Churchill was an Illinois Counselor of the Year Honoree.

Congratulations to Mrs. Zero!
