In honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2, Read across America Day activities were held in RIMSD #41. Eugene Field Elementary celebrated the entire week of Feb. 26 - March 2 with Dr. Seuss Week. Each day had a different Seuss theme: Green Eggs and Ham (Monday), Fox in Sox (Tuesday), Oh, The Places You'll Go (Wednesday), The Cat in the Hat (Thursday Hat Day) and Friday was Dress as your favorite Seuss Character.
Students at the Rock Island Academy celebrated Read Across America the entire week as well. Amber Grant coordinated a week's worth of Celebrity Readers from the Superintendent to the Mayor of Rock Island and invited 80 people to bring their favorite book and read to classrooms. On Friday, March 2, the week culminated with "Stop Drop and Read" at 2:15 p.m. where students gathered in the hallway for ‘drop everything and read’ time.
Great ways to celebrate literacy and love of reading!
