Rock Island Academy teacher Tami Kelley was awarded the Promising New Teacher of Mathematics Award by the Illinois Council of Teacher of Mathematics (ICTM). The Promising New Teacher of Mathematics Award honors one outstanding new teacher each year who has started his or her teaching career with tremendous success. The award is for teachers who have been in their career for less than 5 years, best exemplifies current best practices for teaching math according to the Common Core State Standards and shows the most promise when teaching students.
Western Illinois University faculty member Kathy Felt, who was a former Math Coach with RIMSD #41, knew that Tami Kelley fit the bill and nominated her for the award. "Tami is so dedicated, is so passionate about math, and teaches math so her students really LEARN it."
Kelley has been with the Rock Island-Milan School District since August 2016. She will be honored at a luncheon hosted by the Illinois State Board of Education in June and also be recognized at the ICTM annual meeting at Tinley Park in October.
