Teaching and Learning

Welcome!

Our Mission in RIMSD#41 Teaching & Learning: To provide leadership, service, and support in all areas of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development so that all students and teachers perform at high levels.

Leaders and teachers in Rock Island-Milan School District 41 are committed to intentionally planning learning experiences that reflect high expectations for all students. Our mindset is that all students can and will achieve at high levels if we—partnering with our parents and community leaders—motivate and inspire students to put forth their very best effort each and every day. We work to create an “R-4” Culture (rigor+relevance+relationships=results), one that emphasizes daily instruction that is Rigorous and Relevant and taught by teachers who establish and maintain positive Relationships with their students.

The role of the Teaching and Learning department is to provide leadership, service, and support for teachers and students so that each may perform at optimal levels. We assist schools with ensuring that all students are proficient and prepared for the 21st century. We focus on supporting instruction that allows students to regularly engage in learning activities that require them to exhibit the 4 C’s of 21st Century Learning: Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Creativity. We are responsible for all aspects of Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, and Professional Development.

As we work collaboratively and continuously to improve student achievement for all students, we regularly reflect on four essential questions relating to Teaching and Learning:

What is it we want our kids to know?
How will we know if they know it?
How will we respond when some students do not learn?
How will we respond when some students have already mastered the intended learning outcomes?

We invite you to explore our webpage and join us in our ongoing pursuit to provide all students with a quality education!
